Cheap DSL Options – Compare Knowledgably
Do you want broadband Internet, but don’t want broadband Internet prices? You can get that through cheap DSL. When you’re shopping for affordable DSL service, there are some things you need to notice about vendor and service provider and the contracts they offer before you finally sign up. These things are very important, as they will affect the speed of your Internet as well as how long you will have to stay with that service.
There are dozens of DSL providers out there, though many of them are not solely cheap DSL providers. Some of them are nationwide companies, which provide services people all across the country. Other ones are smaller companies that specialize in small pockets in the country or in one area. You can find good deals with either type, so it should really only come down to which kind has the best prices in the area you live in.
If you want to look at larger companies, AT&T and Verizon both offer cheap DSL to their customers. The cheapest packages can be as low as $14.99, and while that is cheap. There is a downside to that price. Usually the speed that they offer at that low of a price are 768 kilobytes per second down and 368 kilobytes per second up. What this means, is that they are much slower than the regular service plans. That being said, the speeds are much faster than dial-up Internet, but they cannot compare to the plan that are $30 or $40, which have at least double the speed.
If you want to go with a smaller DSL service provider then you might want to start looking at some of the companies that are local in your area. Sometimes they may be advertised in your local newspaper, but the best way to find them is from a site called DSLreports.com. This site allows you to look up service providers in your area by area code, and then gives you information on how good their customer services, connectivity, and whether or not they will be able to connect to your home. It is a good idea to look at the site even if you are going with one of the larger companies, if just to find out if they are as reliable as they like to say they are.
Besides the speeds and what’s available in your area, you also need to pay attention to the contracts themselves. Usually I DSL contract will last one and two years. That being said, it is possible to get out of them, but it will cost you anywhere from $80. $120 depending on your provider. Some even charge more than that to get out of their DSL service. When looking for cheap DSL, be sure that you pay attention to the contract.
